November 23, 2010 – Top-seeds and world NO.3 Xue Chen and Zhang Xi won the women’s beach volleyball championship in 16th Asian Games after thrashing Huang Ying and Yue Yuan in the all-Chinese showdown to retain their Asiad crown. Check out the amazing photos from this event given below.
Last week in Shanghai, on November 15th, a fire erupted in 30-story apartment building under renovation. The flames quickly spread to the building itself and soon engulfed the entire structure. Residents and workers scattered down scaffolding, or climbed to the roof, attempting to escape the smoke and flames. In the blaze, 58 people were unable to escape, losing their lives, and 70 more were injured. The Shanghai government has also taken responsibility for the fire and lax safety oversight. The 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards was held on November 20 in Taipei. This is an annual event Chinese equivalent of American Oscars. Here are the results given below.
Best actress: Lu Liping (performance in “City Monkey”)
Best supporting actress: Hao Lei (performance in “The Fourth Portrait”)
Best actor: Ethan Ruan (performance in “Monga”)
Best film: “When love comes” (nominated in 14 categories, biggest winner of the night including best cinematography and art direction).
Best director: Mong-Hong Chung (directed “The Fourth Portrait”, the film also named outstanding film of the year)
Outstanding filmmaker of the year for executive producer: Lee Lieh
The 2010 Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Guangzhou from November 12 to November 27, 2010. In 1990, after Beijing, Guangzhou is the second city in China to host the Games. A total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes. It will also be the last one to have presented such big events, as the Olympic Council of Asian have enforced new hosting rules for future games, beginning with the 2014 Games.
